members and in-depth interviews with church leaders. The findings of the study were that marital conflicts&#13;
were caused through natural problems as well as man-generated problems. If these problems arise, they&#13;
weaken marriage bond. Therefore, the study recommended that couples must promptly react constructively&#13;

                <text>Continuous Assessment (CA) has been introduced as part of the examination and assessment innovation in the&#13;
Zimbabwean education system. CA is intended to be added onto the traditional assessment, that is, summative&#13;
assessment in order to improve the assessment and evaluation of pupils’ performance, and ultimately the whole&#13;
process of teaching, learning and assessment. This change has led to the introduction of standardised CA at&#13;
secondary level. The qualitative study was to analyse CA practises in secondary schools of Bulawayo&#13;
Metropolitan Province. The study specifically sought to find out the different assessment strategies and their&#13;
contribution to the pupils. The qualitative methodology and a case study method were employed. Qualitative data&#13;
was generated through the researcher as a data generating instrument, questionnaires, interviews, Focus Group&#13;
Discussion documents analysis, and observations. The generated data was analysed through Thematic Content&#13;
Analysis. The results show that the majority of the teachers in the secondary schools exhibited a high level of&#13;
incompetence in the use of statistical tools, a skill for which is necessary in presenting the pupils’ performance in&#13;
a neat and logical manner. The benefit of CA is that, it is guidance oriented since it involves data generating over&#13;
a long period of time and yields more accurate data for the teacher to modify instruction. The study concludes that&#13;
the challenges in the implementation of CA included that, some teachers do not possess the required competences&#13;
for the implementation of CA</text>

                <text>This study examines the typical challenges that learners with visual impairment encounter as they engage in the&#13;
various activities in mathematics learning in secondary schools. The study adopts a constructivist epistemology,&#13;
using a multiple-case study design to generate rich descriptions of the interface, experiences, opinions, internal&#13;
states, feelings and emotions of learners with visual impairment in mathematics. A convenience sample of 11&#13;
learners with visual impairment, 11 parents and 3 school managers was chosen for this study. Data collection&#13;
methods included in-depth interviews, participant observation and non-participant observation. The study found&#13;
that the challenges which learners with visual impairment faced were deeply rooted in the definitions of disability,&#13;
that focused either on the medical or social perspectives as defined in extant literature. The study recommended&#13;
the need to perceive visual impairment and other disabilities as aspects of human diversity and not as deficits, the&#13;
need to recognise the existence of two groups of learners (with disabilities and without disabilities), who require&#13;
different learning approaches and methodologies, the need to provide adequate teaching and learning resources&#13;
and the need to equip the teaching personnel with adequate skills and competencies. In an attempt at overcoming&#13;
negative stereotypes and improving performance in mathematics for learners with visual impairment in secondary&#13;
schools, the study proposes ‘Blind Mathematics’ as an appropriate Mathematics Curriculum for such learners</text>

                <text>In its 2017 Strategic Plan, Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU) proposed that every Masters student should prepare and submit assignments online. Every student is also encouraged to access learning materials online and to use the MyVista platform.&#13;
It appeared that the authorities envisioned this idea without having adequate information on the sufficiency, accessibility, and ability to use the ICT materials&#13;
by the students. It also appeared that use of ICT materials by ZOU students was minimal. A study was then carried out to investigate the challenges faced by ZOU students of the Midlands Regional Campus in accessing and using ICT materials for learning, research and producing assignments. Using convenience sampling,&#13;
15students who visited the ICT laboratory during the first semester of 2017 were selected and interviewed. Data were analysed using her meneutical analysis techniques. Findings were that students had challenges in being involved in collaborative learning with other students and lecturers due to limited resources and skills in using ICT materials, getting positive influence from lecturers since&#13;
lecturers did not integrate ICT’s in tutorials and absence of ICT’s at students’ work places in the remote areas of the Midlands province of Zimbabwe. The study recommends that ZOU needs to put in place adequate ICT machines for the students, make them accessible at all times, and train all students and staff in the proper use of the facilities, inter alia. Further studies can also be carried out in other regional campuses of ZOU.</text>

                <text>This study was on the challenges encountered in the management of sport in universities in&#13;
Zimbabwe and how these could be overcome. The purpose of the study was to create a&#13;
conducive environment for the development of university students sport. The study was&#13;
prompted by experiences of the researcher as a sports administrator, and also by reports that&#13;
confirmed the various challenges encountered in the management of sport in universities in&#13;
Zimbabwe. The challenges compromised the quality of performance of Zimbabwean&#13;
university sports teams at regional and international tournaments. During the study a mixed&#13;
methods approach, of both qualitative and quantitative paradigms, was employed, making it a&#13;
pragmatic approach, although the quantitative paradigm was dominant. The population of the&#13;
study was the Sports Directors of the eleven universities that were affiliated to the Zimbabwe&#13;
Universities Sports Association (ZUSA). The Sports Directors were chosen by purposive&#13;
sampling and responded to a questionnaire. Sports Team Captains, were also involved as&#13;
respondents to a different questionnaire. Students’ team coaches were involved as focus&#13;
group participants. The population also included players, supporters, officials and&#13;
administrators at the venues of the ZUSA Games. These were for observation purposes.&#13;
Opportunistic overt observations were done at three different venues of university games&#13;
over a period of one calendar year. These included one preliminary game, one ball games&#13;
final and one athletics final. The study found that management of sport in universities&#13;
encountered challenges that were related to lack of funding for sport, which generally&#13;
affected provision of resources; behaviour related challenges like cheating and indiscipline;&#13;
poor administration and lack of professionalism by coaches, officials and players. Besides,&#13;
attitude-related challenges among some university authorities, which led to trivialization of&#13;
university sport indicated by absence of clear sports policies and committees that represented&#13;
sport and, in some cases, lack of sports levy or specific funds. All these challenges negatively&#13;
affected the quality of university sport, thereby compromising performance of Zimbabwean&#13;
athletes at regional and international sports tournaments because the sport environment was&#13;
not conducive to the development of students sport. The study concluded that the various&#13;
challenges could be overcome by serious involvement and unity of purpose by all&#13;
iii&#13;
stakeholders who are the university authorities, sport management, sport officials, national&#13;
sports associations, the corporate world, alumni, the players themselves and the government&#13;
through various relevant departments. These should ensure that funding is availed for&#13;
university sport development and that formulation of effective policies on sport and their&#13;
implementation is done. Furthermore, the study established that there was need for sport&#13;
management, officiating and coaching workshops to improve university sport. Change of&#13;
attitudes through sports education would also go a long way in ensuring support and&#13;
participation that is indispensable in university sport</text>

                <text>Job hopping has become prevalent amongst Zimbabwean university lecturers. The study seeks&#13;
to identify a solution to job hopping amongst academics. The investigation was aimed at&#13;
understanding causes, impact and solutions to job hopping of lecturers in the Zimbabwean&#13;
universities. The investigation employs qualitative methodologies and uses data saturation to&#13;
determine sample size. Poor remuneration, lack of resources, work pressure, red tape and lack&#13;
of career growth were found to be causes of job hopping amongst lecturers in Zimbabwean&#13;
universities. Brain drain, poor quality of graduates, increased workload, recruitment and&#13;
administration costs and unfilled posts were found to be negative impacts of job hopping of&#13;

                <text>In many developing countries, Roadrunner (Indigenous) chicken production in urban areas offers multifaceted opportuni-&#13;
ties. However,Plea this local enterprise also has some potential hazards and constraints. The research aimed to characterize&#13;
Roadrunner chicken production in Harare. A descriptive survey was conducted whereby 107 respondents were identified&#13;
using a multistage sampling approach and were interviewed using a semi-structured questionnaire. Respondents comprised&#13;
52% men and 48% women. Roadrunner chickens were kept either for sale only (58%) or both household consumption and&#13;
sale (42%). All the respondents (100%) were not registered as poultry producers. The Roadrunner chicken breeds kept were&#13;
the Boschveld (41%), Koekoek (21%), Autralorp (20%) and non-discrete native strains. The average flock size was 125,&#13;
ranging from 25 to 715 birds and the average stocking density was 7 birds/m 2 . Only 8% of respondents practiced the free&#13;
range system with supplementation and the rest (92%) provided feed to the chickens. Sixty-two percent (62%) of the farmers&#13;
vaccinated their chickens against common poultry diseases. The average mortality rate was 7%, being caused by diseases&#13;
(99%) and unknown (1%). Bio-security was achieved through cleaning, disinfection and restricted entry. The most preffered&#13;
age at sale was 18–24 weeks. An informal market system was mainly used (95%) and the average selling price per bird was&#13;
$8 (ranging from $6—$11). The most commonly reported challenges were unreliable customers, lack of capital, few markets,&#13;
theft, and insufficient feeds. Adressing these challenges could improve urban production of roadrunner chickens and have a&#13;
positive impact on Zimbabwe Poultry Industry.</text>

                <text>The study reflected on the impact of the fast track land reform programme, 2000-2002 on the&#13;
distribution of land between men and women in A1 resettlement areas in Zimbabwe. Throughout the discourse&#13;
on the land reform programme, the virtues of land transfer have been extensively extolled while ignoring its&#13;
impact on gender relations and gender asset gap.&#13;
The study used a national quantitative baseline survey and qualitative data collected in Goromonzi District.&#13;
Qualitative data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observations and documentary analysis so&#13;
as to triangulate the evidence. This dataset was used to complement findings from statistical analysis of the&#13;
survey data.&#13;
The chi-square tests on survey data and findings from the case study conducted in Goromonzi District&#13;
did not show evidence of discrimination against women under the fast track land reform programme. Instead,&#13;
women tended to obtain more rights to land through two avenues: obtaining land as individuals in their own&#13;
right and through the joint registration of offer letters with their husbands. The results showed that women&#13;
beneficiaries obtained the same land rights as men in terms of land use patterns.&#13;
The study recommended that allocation of land under the land reform programme should focus on individuals&#13;
within households. Government officials directly involved in the design, planning and implementation of the&#13;
land reform programme should be trained in gender analysis and participatory gender planning. Methods&#13;
should be devised to inform women about their land rights and the avenues through which these rights can be&#13;

                <text>Access to water and sanitation services is a global crisis, however, it is more prominent in poor and disadvantaged communities, especially in developing countries. This paper adopts a qualitative discourse analysis approach to examine collaborative water governance in African countries (Kenya, South Africa and Zimbabwe). A discourse analysis approach was adopted as it is useful in examining and analysing written content by considering the context of the study. Therefore, since the study is qualitative in nature, a series of journal articles, reports and newspapers were chosen as key data sources. The chapter examines the collaborative and participatory approaches in enhancing equality towards access to water and sanitation services in indigenous communities in selected African countries. It further discusses the role of water governance systems and their different dimensions in shaping different outcomes towards access to water. The study is explored under the theoretical constructs of the theory of social equity, organisational justice and targeted universalism. The study established that, water collaborative governance approaches did not consider the unique nature of indigenous communities (values, culture and knowledge) which bears greatly upon how they perceive water resources. Therefore, collaborative approaches did not enhance equity towards access, hence this study recommends governments to incorporate indigenous knowledge systems in water governance.</text>

                <text>The objective of the study was to assess the impact of the&#13;
introduction of improved indigenous beef cattle bulls on&#13;
productivity, herd population dynamics and socioeconomic factors in&#13;
small scale commercial livestock production areas of Mangwe district&#13;
in Zimbabwe. A semi-structured questionnaire was administered to&#13;
all 20 participating farmers in the breeding scheme. The data&#13;
collected included household demographics, herd structure,&#13;
breeding practices, management, marketing, socio-economic&#13;
impacts, challenges and impacts of withdrawal of funds on the&#13;
breeding project by donors. Data analysis was perfomed using&#13;
statistical package for social science (SSPS), version 16 for descriptive&#13;
statistics. The herd sizes increased by 77%, 96%, 71%, and 60% for&#13;
the White Brahman, Black Brahman, Tuli and Nguni, respectively. The&#13;
highest number of offspring was sired by the White Brahman (4 per&#13;
year per farmer).The Tuli and Nguni bulls contributed the least&#13;
number of offspringof 2 per year per farmer. The mean age at first&#13;
calving from the progeny of the White Brahman, Black Brahman, Tuli&#13;
and Nguni were 36 ± 0 , 34,5 ± 2.12 , 33.75± 2.26, 35 ± 1.73&#13;
months, respectively. The main challenges affecting the programme&#13;
were lack of adequate feed, uncontrolled mating and lack of functional fences. The withdrawal of support funds on the breeding&#13;
programme resulted in collapse of the restocking program and lack&#13;
of improvement of water points. It was concluded that improved&#13;
indigenous cattle genetic resources can survive, reproduce under low&#13;
input communal systems. Therefore, community based breeding&#13;
schemes are a viable and sustainable option in improving beef&#13;
production in the country</text>

                <text>The need for tertiary institutions’ involvement in agroforestry development is relevant now&#13;
more than ever due to limited funding within the national research and extension institutions&#13;
and weak community/stakeholder linkages. A study was undertaken to understand&#13;
perceptions and experience of tertiary education insititutions and their community&#13;
linkages and to review possible models for improving the linkages. A desk study was&#13;
carried out to analyse community stakeholder linkages. A case study of a communal farmer&#13;
practising agroforestry technologies in Chinhamora communal area of Zimbabwe and an&#13;
assessment of multistakeholder approaches in promotion of agroforestry technologies for&#13;
improvement of livelihoods are presented in this paper. A qualitative research approach&#13;
was adopted. The study revealed the following: age differences between the students and&#13;
host farmers affected effective communication; increased diversity in opinions amongst&#13;
stakeholders; and weak linkages with tertiary institutions. Recommendations proposed&#13;
include review of curricula focusing on agribusiness and entrepreneurship in agroforestry&#13;
training, involvement of social based institutions in the development of agroforestry, and&#13;
establishment of permanent community training sites. More is expected from tertiary&#13;
institutions beyond supervision of students’ projects to post graduation follow ups.</text>

Comparison of growth and yield adaptability indicators&#13;

In eastern semi-arid Zimbabwe, planting basins are mostly used to boost maize yields, but still low&#13;
yields are often obtained due to poor choices of varieties to grow . A comparative study of growth and&#13;
yield of the only two locally and commonly grown Pioneer cultivars (P2859W and PHB3253) under&#13;
planting basin technique (PBT) was carried out to determine a more adaptable cultivar in Guhune,&#13;
eastern Zimbabwe (NR IV). The study was done in 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 growing seasons. An&#13;
experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD), with the two cultivars, each&#13;
replicated four times. Yield, leaf length and plant height were measured and averaged. Results showed&#13;
that PHB3253 had growth of 75.2 cm after measuring at 2 weeks interval for 10 weeks. Its growth was&#13;
significantly (p&lt;0.05) higher in terms of plant height than P2859W. Leaf length of P2859W was not&#13;
significantly (p&gt;0.05) greater than PHB3253. Grain yield of PHB3253 (35.1 kg) was significantly (p&lt;0.05)&#13;
greater than that of P2859W (26.6 kg). PHB 3253 is therefore more adaptable to semi-arid conditions&#13;
under basin technique as signified by its higher growth and yield than P2859W. It is therefore&#13;
recommended that farmers who use planting basins in semi-arid areas for growing short season maize&#13;
cultivars (P2859W and PHB3253) should opt for PHB3253 for better productivity.</text>

                <text>This study seeks to analyse the controversial issues about coverage of salarygate by the print media in Zimbabwe by The Herald, and the roles&#13;
that the media play in curbing the problem. Both quantitative and qualitative data approaches were used to analyse the roles that media play&#13;
and to analyse the frequency of coverage of corruption issues. Interviews and content analysis were used as research instruments. Among the&#13;
findings of the study were that the war against corruption cannot be won without the involvement of media. It was also found o ut that the stories&#13;
lacked legal analysis of the salarygate. That the media plays a crucial role in creating awareness as well as in putting the government in check&#13;
and pressuring it to prosecute cases that were reported. The study recommended that there was need to enhance the freedom of the press to&#13;
protect journalists through the law, as well as to ensure more effective and objective reporting of corruption stories and other stories of human&#13;
interest.</text>

                <text>An assessment of consumer willingness to pay for ‘novel’ products is critical because it&#13;
determines the market entry point for a business venture. A research study was conducted&#13;
between July and September 2023 in Chegutu to analyse consumers’ willingness to pay for&#13;
organic cabbage with the conventional cabbage as the benchmark. Data from 200 respondents&#13;
was collected using a mall-intercept survey from the 4th of July to the 10th of September 2023&#13;
using convenience sampling. The study targeted consumers that are 18 years and above as the&#13;
primary grocery shoppers of their households. This paper represents the first attempt to analyse&#13;
the consumer willingness to pay for organic foods in Zimbabwe to the knowledge of the&#13;
researcher. The modern approach to consumer demand theory (The Attribute/Lancaster Model)&#13;
regards consumption as an activity with goods as inputs yielding output in terms of a pool of&#13;
attributes. Unlike the traditional economic demand theory, it is able to explain why some&#13;
consumers prefer highly priced organically produced foods to the cheaper conventionally&#13;
produced alternatives. A double-bounded contingent valuation approach was used to&#13;
determine the price premium while logistic regression was used to analyse the factors affecting&#13;
willingness to pay. An average price premium of 61% was established. Lifestyle and organic&#13;
source of information (agricultural fairs or exhibitions) were shown to negatively affect&#13;
willingness to pay. On the other hand, consumers who had high ethical values and were married&#13;
had a high probability of a willingness to pay for organic cabbage. In future, willingness to pay&#13;
should be measured through actual purchase of these credence foods at the point of sale</text>

system of marking. Participant responses were sought through using open ended&#13;
questionnaires. The study established that the CBM was considered advantageous in that&#13;
marking because it could be made more reliable, efficient and that it encouraged good&#13;
team spirit among makers. Nonetheless, some problems presented by CBM were opined&#13;
by participants. For instance fast markers were held back by the slow ones, mastering of&#13;
the whole marking scheme was not considered important yet in actual fact it was crucial&#13;
that each maker mastered it and the whole exercise was hurried. It was also expressed&#13;
that examiners were now getting lower remuneration compared to TMS. General&#13;
suggestions were made by participants on how CBM could be improved. The researchers&#13;
recommended that ample time be given to examiners for marking and that payment be&#13;

                <text>The study sought to evaluate teacher education quality and its implication on teacher quality&#13;
in Zimbabwe. The researcher was spurred into investigating this area because of the&#13;
misgivings of various stakeholders on the quality of today’s teacher in Zimbabwe. These&#13;
teachers are said to be lacking the requisite knowledge, skills and attitudes required to&#13;
effectively execute their duties. Teacher colleges are autonomous institutions and design their&#13;
own curriculum, implement and assess their own students. Current teachers in Zimbabwe are&#13;
blamed for low quality in the education system. This study was a qualitative study and the&#13;
paradigm was interpretive. The multiple case study design was used to carry out this study.&#13;
The participants in this study included student teachers, lecturers and graduates from the&#13;
teachers colleges and mentors from schools. To select the sample the purposive sampling&#13;
technique was used. To collect data interviews, focus group discussions, document analysis&#13;
and open-ended questionnaires were used. Data were analysed using the grounded theory.&#13;
The major findings of this research were that there were variations in quality in teacher&#13;
education institutions. The study found out that the ZINTEC model was used as a model for&#13;
training primary school teachers in Zimbabwe. The teacher education curriculum was found&#13;
to be overloaded and was impacting negatively on quality and quantity of delivery. The&#13;
study found subjective assessment of teaching practice and poor mentoring as factors&#13;
negatively impacting on the quality of teacher training. Prevalence of negative lecturer-&#13;
student relationships was compromising the credibility of the teacher training programme and&#13;
its assessment processes. The study find out that graduates were not well prepared to teach&#13;
effectively in the primary school because they lack adequate content knowledge and&#13;
pedagogical content knowledge. The study recommends the review of the whole teacher&#13;
training system. There is need to standardise the teacher education curriculum and relook at&#13;
the primary school curriculum to improve the quality of training. The teacher education&#13;
conceptual framework should be re-defined and model of teacher training reviewed in the&#13;
light of the findings of this study. Teacher education should be guided by a well-defined&#13;
conceptual framework base of constructivist theory of learning. This study recommends the&#13;
adoption of values, attitudes, skills and knowledge (VASK) model to improve quality of&#13;

                <text>A weakness of the extant Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) literature to date has been its&#13;
normative approach to the subject, creating in effect, a 'one size fits all view' of the&#13;
preconditions or Critical Success Factors (CSFs) for the implementation of PPPs yet they vary&#13;
with the context and sector. This study challenges the existing prominent CSFs model for the&#13;
implementation of PPP which it perceives to be broader and biased towards economic&#13;
infrastructure in rich industrial nations and excludes the realities of post-colonial third world&#13;
countries. The research developed a refined sector-specific Educational Infrastructure Critical&#13;
Success Factor Model (EICSFM) that will inform effective implementation of educational&#13;
infrastructure PPPs in Zimbabwe state universities. Validated suggestions from research&#13;
participants were compared to the existing model used to guide this study and results showed&#13;
that some of the suggested CSFs for PPPs in Zimbabwe state universities tallies with this extant&#13;
widely accepted CSFs model for PPPs, whereas some differ. The new suggested emerging&#13;
sector-specific CSFs for effective implementation of PPPs in state universities include; the&#13;
need for state universities to have absolute autonomy, the establishment of institutional PPP&#13;
Committees, state universities to be creative and aggressive, vibrant leadership at state&#13;
universities, universities to have good business orientation, the establishment of innovative&#13;
PPPs models for educational infrastructure projects (social infrastructure projects), the creation&#13;
of project bankability and attractiveness to investors, the need for political will and creation of&#13;
trust. Comparing such suggestions to the extant CSFs model, the study concluded that even&#13;
though some these preconditions for successful implementation of PPPs may be similar to&#13;
some of the existing ones, their application is not similar but context-based. The study thus&#13;
recommends governments avoid a ‘one size fits all’ perception and approach, but rather encompass sector-specific considerations when adopting and implementing PPPs as an alternative funding option for infrastructure development.</text>

                <text>Poultry sub sector is a privileged entry point for promoting gender&#13;
equality. Gender inequalities in poultry and livestock activities are now&#13;
more and more acknowledged by governments, scientists, and farmers in&#13;
sub Saharan Africa. This is on the background that gender inequality has&#13;
translated into loss of opportunities or potential gains on agricultural&#13;
production and food security. This has been exacerbated by the fact that&#13;
the progress in empowering women in agriculture and reducing gender&#13;
inequality has been slow despite this realization. The paper presents an&#13;
overview of the development of the indigenous chickens sector in sub&#13;
Saharan Africa and its implication on addressing gender equality. The&#13;
assumption is that despite the multitude of socio-economic constraints&#13;
faced by women in agriculture they are capable of raising indigenous&#13;
chickens for the welfare of their households, hence promoting indigenous&#13;
chickens can give women a chance to control more income, reducing&#13;
gender inequality. Achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment&#13;
is critical to the success of these development goals.</text>
