                <text>The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of corporate governance practices on the&#13;
financial performance of companies that were listed on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE)&#13;
from 2014 to 2019. The major objectives of the study were to assess the overall corporate&#13;
governance rating of ZSE-listed companies and to examine the significance of corporate&#13;
governance practices on the financial performance of those listed companies. The researcher&#13;
chose companies listed on the ZSE as they play a pivotal role in the national economy and&#13;
their corporate governance is regulated by ZSE. The study adopted a positivism paradigm and&#13;
employed the quantitative approach. The quantitative approach is premised on gathering&#13;
scientific data through objective means which include experiments and surveys. Corporate&#13;
governance was measured using the Blau (1977) model whilst the firm performance was&#13;
measured using accounting ratios. Firm performance panel data was collected from the ZSE-&#13;
listed firms‟ annual financial reports that were available on their respective websites for the&#13;
period 2014 to 2019. Data were analysed using the PCSE regression analysis model. The&#13;
research established that most ZSE-listed companies surpassed the minimum corporate&#13;
governance practices set by ZSE. However, there was a high level of non-disclosure of some&#13;
information which should ordinarily be made available to stakeholders in the Annual reports.&#13;
The study also established that financial performance was sector related. Corporate&#13;
governance practices had a varying degree effect on certain accounting ratios, and some did&#13;
not have a significant correlation with other financial performance indicators. The study&#13;
concluded that some corporate governance practices are correlated to the entity‟s financial&#13;
performance and that corporate governance practices affect the company‟s financial&#13;
performance to a different extent. It is, therefore, recommended that people charged with&#13;
corporate governance should institute sound corporate governance practices to enhance&#13;
companies‟ financial performance. Sound corporate governance practices result in sustainable&#13;
good financial performance.&#13;

                <text>Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) contribute significantly to economic growth and&#13;
sustainable development globally. However, their contribution to sustainable green growth in&#13;
the fourth industrial revolution has been largely not addressed by literature in Zimbabwe, which&#13;
this qualitative study sought to unveil. The mantra of green growth strategies is ensuring a&#13;
practical and flexible approach for achieving concrete, measurable progress across its&#13;
economic and environmental pillars. Green growth strategies are not limited to the provision&#13;
of critical support services, clean water, air and food production but to deliver full economic&#13;
potential on a sustainable basis. This lacuna has not been addressed by literature on SMEs in&#13;
Chinhoyi which this study sought to fill. The study purposively selected 15 registered&#13;
manufacturing SMEs where an interview guide was used to solicit data from SMEs owners,&#13;
which then was analysed and presented thematically. Study results showed that the availability&#13;
of certain types of natural capital (sun, water, wind, among others) offer new opportunities for&#13;
greening growth for SMEs in the manufacturing sector. The results confirm that technological&#13;
change has been the main driver of green growth and efficiency for manufacturing SMEs. The&#13;
results also pointed out that vital parts of the SMEs’ green growth journey is developing&#13;
business plans for new, sustainable products and services, implementing greener production or&#13;
operational processes, or integrating selected standards that can enable some companies to get&#13;
access to new markets. Based on the results, SMEs require capital to realise their green growth&#13;
business plans. SMEs are encouraged to redefine their mission, vision and values and&#13;
incorporate green concepts to enhance sustainability. A longitudinal study needs to be done on&#13;
all types of SMEs going green in their business strategic orientation in Zimbabwe.</text>

                <text>This study is to evaluate the impact of academic registry information&#13;
system on open distance learning with the Zimbabwe Open University as the case&#13;
study. The research assessed the service, information and system qualities as well as&#13;
the benefits and challenges faced by the system users in executing their duties using&#13;
the system. The system users include lecturers, administrative staff and information&#13;
records clerks in various departments of the university. The researchers used the&#13;
mixed methodology where the quantitative approach was the primary method while&#13;
the qualitative, through the interview guide complemented as a secondary method.&#13;
Closed-ended questionnaires and interview guides were used as research instruments.&#13;
A population sample of 54 participants was used. A total of 35 out of 54 managed to&#13;
respond to the questionnaire. It was concluded that the system brought effectiveness&#13;
and individual satisfaction as benefits although it was found to have some errors as&#13;
well as providing inconclusive reports. The study found that the registry system&#13;
brought high levels of satisfaction. However there was need for more training and&#13;
support from the system to overcome challenges. It was also recommended that the&#13;
system should be user friendly and exhibit ease of use functions.</text>

                <text>Small and Medium Enterprises are globally credited for creating employment especially for&#13;
the youth, and to an extent, contributing to the gross domestic product of nations.&#13;
Unemployment is a scourge in Mozambique and small and medium enterprises are seen as a&#13;
solution to this universal economic problem. The study sought to answer a fundamental&#13;
research question; first, whether or not the support structures from financial institutions,&#13;
government agencies, large firms and non-governmental organizations are sufficient for&#13;
sustainable development and growth of small and medium enterprises, and second, whether&#13;
small and medium enterprises that have received support, contribute to reducing&#13;
unemployment in Greater Maputo. The study adopted the quantitative approach employing&#13;
questionnaires as tools for data collection. The sample was chosen from the population of&#13;
small and medium enterprises in Maputo using stratified random sampling method. A total&#13;
of 550 respondents were selected from the seven administrative districts of Greater Maputo&#13;
and the interviews were conducted using the face to face method employing structured,&#13;
close ended questionnaires. The study found that support afforded to small and medium&#13;
enterprises was too little for the sustainable development of this important sector of the&#13;
economy. The major Achilles‘ heel among small and medium enterprises development was&#13;
not the lack of entrepreneurial drive, rather subdued competitiveness. The study&#13;
recommended that proactive steps be implemented to support small and medium enterprises&#13;
in Greater Maputo, especially manufacturing enterprises. Financial institutions, government&#13;
agencies, large firms and non-governmental organizations should take positive action to&#13;
supports especially start-up firms as they are the source of employment creation</text>

                <text>The researcher sought to establish the perceptions of operational staff on their understanding&#13;
of organisational success. The perception of organisational success is usually a reflection of&#13;
where the owner of the perception stands in the organisation. A constructivist philosophy was&#13;
adopted to engage a group of purposefully selected operational staff members in in-depth&#13;
interviews through a face-to-face mode and then by WhatsApp. The purposefully selected&#13;
members of the operational staff were asked three questions, and they discussed these questions&#13;
over a period of two months. At the end of the period, transcripts of the discussions were given&#13;
to relevant members for their authenticity check and validation. Further to that process, the&#13;
responses were coded, and themes were formulated from which the perceptions of operational&#13;
staff were derived. The staff perceived that their hard work, the awards they received from the&#13;

                <text>The study sought to recommend appropriate strategies for the propagation of micro-credentials that would positively influence economic growth using micro-credentials to provide knowledge and skills training. The thrust was to establish the state of micro-credentials in Zimbabwe and how they could be implemented to advantage. An interpretivist philosophy informed the choice of a qualitative paradigm and a case study design. Two institutions of higher learning and training were selected and, from each institution a team of six was purposively selected because of their superior knowledge in the matters of university business. A series of in-depth interviews was held to elicit the requisite information until a point of saturation was reached. The findings indicated that Zimbabwe and most African nations, needed to speed up the process of adopting and implementing micro-credentials. The strategies they could utilise included the use of online courses already accredited to kick-start the offering of micro-credentials, the creation and upholding regulations that catalysed the provision of micro-credentials, and the opening of identified opportunities to adopt and use micro- credentials. The study ended with a recommendation to use an ACQF-II (2024) produced Handbook on Micro-credentials in Africa as resource material and a conclusion.</text>

                <text>A weakness of the extant Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) literature to date has been its&#13;
normative approach to the subject, creating in effect, a 'one size fits all view' of the&#13;
preconditions or Critical Success Factors (CSFs) for the implementation of PPPs yet they vary&#13;
with the context and sector. This study challenges the existing prominent CSFs model for the&#13;
implementation of PPP which it perceives to be broader and biased towards economic&#13;
infrastructure in rich industrial nations and excludes the realities of post-colonial third world&#13;
countries. The research developed a refined sector-specific Educational Infrastructure Critical&#13;
Success Factor Model (EICSFM) that will inform effective implementation of educational&#13;
infrastructure PPPs in Zimbabwe state universities. Validated suggestions from research&#13;
participants were compared to the existing model used to guide this study and results showed&#13;
that some of the suggested CSFs for PPPs in Zimbabwe state universities tallies with this extant&#13;
widely accepted CSFs model for PPPs, whereas some differ. The new suggested emerging&#13;
sector-specific CSFs for effective implementation of PPPs in state universities include; the&#13;
need for state universities to have absolute autonomy, the establishment of institutional PPP&#13;
Committees, state universities to be creative and aggressive, vibrant leadership at state&#13;
universities, universities to have good business orientation, the establishment of innovative&#13;
PPPs models for educational infrastructure projects (social infrastructure projects), the creation&#13;
of project bankability and attractiveness to investors, the need for political will and creation of&#13;
trust. Comparing such suggestions to the extant CSFs model, the study concluded that even&#13;
though some these preconditions for successful implementation of PPPs may be similar to&#13;
some of the existing ones, their application is not similar but context-based. The study thus&#13;
recommends governments avoid a ‘one size fits all’ perception and approach, but rather encompass sector-specific considerations when adopting and implementing PPPs as an alternative funding option for infrastructure development.</text>

                <text>Despite persuasive heuristics and pragmatic promotion for the use of Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs)&#13;
to infuse dynamism into public sector infrastructure development, little is known about their progress in&#13;
Zimbabwe's state universities. This study traces the evolution and validation of PPPs as an alternative&#13;
funding option for the development of educational infrastructure in Zimbabwean state universities and&#13;
compares it with other traditional funding options. This descriptive qualitative research methodology,&#13;
grounded in constructivist research philosophy and bolstered by a multiple case study research design&#13;
collected data through in-depth key informant interviews. Nineteen key informant participants were&#13;
selected through criteria and critical purposive sampling techniques, while secondary data was sourced&#13;
from relevant literature. This study established that there has been a low uptake and implementation&#13;
inertia of educational infrastructure PPPs in Zimbabwean state universities since their adoption and&#13;
standardization in 2010. Although the concept was introduced back in 1998 and initial PPP frameworks&#13;
were developed in 2004, it wasn't until 2010 that serious emphasis was placed on adopting them in&#13;
Zimbabwean state universities. Various justifications were identified for the adoption of PPPs in this&#13;
sector and PPPs emerged as a viable alternative to traditional funding sources such as the national&#13;
budget, institutional funds and loan financing. PPPs were viewed as a sustainable approach that could&#13;
help state universities bridge their infrastructure gaps. The study recommends that state universities&#13;
adopt a business oriented approach and operate as social enterprises if they are to attract a significant&#13;
pool of quality private investors in PPP arrangements.</text>

                <text>The study aimed to determine whether Performance Management Systems (PMS) are effective in improving employees' performance or not. The paper also addresses policies and procedures used when implementing PMS and whether recommendations should be made to improve what isn't working well and maintain what is in to provide the best system execution in Zimbabwe's Small to Medium Enterprise (SME) sector. The objectives of the study were to determine how well PMS works to enhance the performance of the employees and to determine the protocols and guidelines utilised in the implementation of PMS. Theoretical literature review looked at the Theory of Expectancy, the Goal setting theory, the Theories of staff productivity and performance management systems, the effect of performance reviews on workers' output and how employee productivity is affected by performance training and development. Reviews of the theoretical and empirical literature were conducted to answer research questions. The study employed systematic review of literature. It was discovered that the Small to Medium Enterprises sector is using PMS and that the yearly performance reports were being prepared on time. The themes that were found from the study were improved and increased teamwork and communication, increased fairness, transparency and better hiring decisions, provision of detailed, qualitative feedback and increased motivation and protection of employees from potential bias. It can be inferred that the SME sector should continue to employ the assessment system. The study recommended that additional research be conducted to empirically assess the effect of performance management system on employee performance in specific context.</text>

                <text>This thesis was an analysis of the factors influencing the exclusion of the non-formal workers&#13;
from the Mozambique Social Protection System (MSPS). It aimed at finding mechanisms&#13;
through which the MSPS could become more comprehensive and inclusive. The social&#13;
protection system only accommodates employees from the formal sector of the economy, which&#13;
constitutes the minority of the economically active population (EAP) and also of the&#13;
Mozambican people. So, in more than 25 million of Mozambicans, of which more than 15&#13;
million are above 15 years and are EAP, of which more than 87% are out of the formal sector&#13;
and, consequently, excluded from the MSPS. In this context, the research looked out to&#13;
understand why the MSPS excludes the non-formal workers? What are the implications of this&#13;
exclusion of the non-formal workers? How the excluded workers survive in situations of illness,&#13;
invalidity, old age or death? Which mechanisms can be adopted in order to make the MSPS&#13;
more comprehensive and inclusive? To constitute the sample, it was recurred to non-probability&#13;
sampling in its convenience and purpose type, in which had employees of the National Institute&#13;
for Social Security (NISS), Municipality Council of Maputo City (MCMC), non-formal&#13;
professional associations responsible and the non-formal workers, as the research participants.&#13;
To generate data, to the sample elements, the researcher administered a questionnaire and&#13;
interview containing closed and open-ended questions. To analyse and discuss data, it was&#13;
delimited to the use of interpretivism or constructivism approach in qualitative methodology.&#13;
For presentation, analysis and discussion, it was confined to the use of technical charts and&#13;
contends analysis. As guiding theories, the study recurred to the social protection and social&#13;
network theories. Through the use of the qualitative methodology, philosophy, procedures and&#13;
theories above, it was perceived that the MSPS managed by the NISS did not include the non-&#13;
formal workers because it lacked administrative organisation to include and manage them and&#13;
because bureaucratic aspects. The NISS considered all workers that were not working at&#13;
enterprises as the non-formal, without resources to contribute to the social protection system&#13;
and difficult to find them. However, some of them were salaried, clearly locatable, with enough&#13;
financial income to contribute to the system. Moreover, some of them were continuously in&#13;
relationship with some public institutions, namely, Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF),&#13;
Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIT), MCMC and National Institute for Statistics (NIS), which&#13;
licensed and afterwards, collected fees and tax, interacted constantly and collected important&#13;
information from them, and so on. Therefore, this exclusion, besides having no objectively real&#13;
and valid reasons, condemned these non-formal workers to social and economic vulnerability in&#13;
the future when they are at social and economic risk, such as maternity, sickness, invalidity, old&#13;
age and/or death. To minimise the impact of these situations, the excluded workers adopted&#13;
informal systems for social security or constitute professional associations, through which they&#13;
face the maternity, illness, invalidity, old age and death difficulties. That is why the NISS must:&#13;
(1) develop strategic tools for the institutional management, by which should be guided in all its&#13;
actions to cover all workers, the formal or non-formal; for that, the NISS can (2) create&#13;
partnership with the non-formal professional associations and public institutions which interact&#13;
with them, because they know who and where are then, their financial and economic conditions;&#13;
(3) consolidate the use of Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) to facilitate&#13;
the scanning and electronic storage process of historical information of the (not)submitted&#13;
contributions to reduce the contribution evasion and inactivity of employers and workers; and&#13;
(4) develop a training plan for their employees to identify with the strategic objectives and&#13;
challenges of the institution, just to mention a few proposals. Finally, Also, it is necessary to do&#13;
a feasibility study for (1) reimbursement of the Mozambican state with respect to its&#13;
contribution rate of the non-formal workers and other segments hitherto excluded; (2) create&#13;
fiscal mechanism to provide social pensions non-contributory, i.e., welfare pensions; (3) show&#13;
the possibility to define and regulate an explicit mechanism and purpose of upgrading the&#13;
amount of benefits that can be accrued from engaging non-formal workers into the social&#13;
protection system.</text>

                <text>Open and Distance electronic Learning (ODeL) has transformed itself to become virtual with&#13;
minimal or even no physical tutor-student contact as academics create learning platforms, mark&#13;
assignments and even supervise dissertations and theses online. The Zimbabwe Open&#13;
University (ZOU) has undergone a lot of transformation since becoming a fully pledged&#13;
university in 1999. ZOU started with class contact (face-to-face with tutor) and use of modules&#13;
but has made great strides towards full use of electronic learning (e-learning) in line with&#13;
contemporary global practices in ODeL. The study used the explanatory research design. A&#13;
questionnaire was used to collect quantitative data. The interview guide was used to collect&#13;
qualitative data. The study established that the majority of academics’ workload had increased&#13;
as the transition phase was taking longer than expected. A lot of administrative work, coupled&#13;
with inadequate training to effectively use the ZOU MyVista software learning platform,&#13;
pressure emanating from doctorate degree studies by most academics, the need to undertake&#13;
research and publish research papers as well as implementing a demanding quality assurance&#13;
system, all strained academics. On a positive note, the use of e-learning has expedited feedback&#13;
and communication to students, and it is also very convenient to them as they no longer have&#13;
to travel long distances or queue at regional campuses to see the regional programme&#13;
coordinators. The study recommended that more training on e-learning and availability of more&#13;
accessible infrastructure, namely computers and relevant software, would capacitate both&#13;
academics and students. There is also an urgent need to bring Part Time tutors on board, who&#13;
are the majority but currently left out of this e-learning drive, so that there is a strong learning&#13;
culture at ZOU for improved service delivery</text>

                <text>This study was conducted to appreciate, fully, what leadership factors drive business&#13;
viability in volatile, unpredictable, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) environments with the&#13;
broader focus being on establishing the key leadership themes and factors influencing business&#13;
viability in an identified VUCA environment, namely Zimbabwe from 1998-2017. The study&#13;
made use of interpretive phenomenology as its paradigm, and was premised on qualitative,&#13;
single explorative and interpretive case study design and methodology. Data were generated&#13;
by the researcher through interviews, focus group discussions, with participants having been&#13;
purposively sampled. The analysis of the data made use of the modified Stevick-Colaizzi-Keen&#13;
method as described by Moustakas (1994), which resulted in the emergence of seven central&#13;
themes considered as essential ingredients for fostering resilience and viability for businesses&#13;
operating in VUCA environments. Based on the findings and discussions thereof, the&#13;
researcher then amended the “Attributional resilience model” by Gibson and Tarrant (2010)&#13;
and proposed what he has termed the Leadership-Driven Resilience Model (LDRM), which&#13;
theoretically proffers possibilities for business leaders to develop coping strategies in response&#13;
to difficult business operating environments. Recommendations for future research enquiry,&#13;
include the need to look at multiple case studies and be able to undertake comparisons on&#13;
viability dynamics across different organisations in VUCA environments. Further&#13;
recommendations are also directed towards governments to more effectively respond through&#13;
policy so as to ease off pressures as well as threats that VUCA environments thrust upon&#13;
businesses and for businesses operating in VUCA environments to consider viability factors&#13;
established in the study and then incorporate them into their strategy and operational planning&#13;
so as to guarantee survival as they navigate the difficult operating environments.</text>

                <text>Leadership in Africa is under-researched while academic investigation into leadership has been much more rigorous, in terms of trends, in America and Europe. In Africa, there is sparse empirical research on leadership in business organizations. This study contributes towards closing the gap through investigating the application of leadership theories by Chief Executive Officers of Zimbabwe Stock Exchange listed companies. While the theoretical propositions and frameworks have been largely influenced by empirical studies within the Western World, emerging studies on African leadership and management culture show a gap that needs to be filled for Africa to move forward. This research, therefore, investigates the efficacy and relevance of some of the theories on leadership by focusing on Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) drawn from organizations listed on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange during the period 2005 to 2010. The research will also aim to analyse the leadership characteristics that help to transform a corporation into a social system. In essence, the study sought to ascertain the role of the various factors proposed in the literature as affecting leadership and how leaders act to get the best out of their subordinates through inducing an appropriate action for a particular need. The theoretical proposition posed is that leaders, through influencing an entire group, can improve the fortunes of a company. The research problem for this study is premised on the resource endowment and educational levels in Zimbabwe which do not reconcile with the level of development in the country especially when compared with Asian countries that were at the same levels of development just a few decades ago. The research methodology applied to investigate the application of theory, in this study, involved a combined approach i.e. quantitative and qualitative analysis (triangulation). Instruments used to investigate the underlying practices and characteristics of leaders in a developing country context were questionnaires, observations, case studies and oral interviews. The archival method of directing questions at a population concerning key issues was aimed at understanding the present and predicting the future. The qualitative approach informed by phenomenology was used to come up with a holistic view where emphasis was on meaning rather than frequency while the quantitative approach was used to determine frequency. This process introduced flexibility as it allowed for greater spontaneity and adaptation through the more elaborate responses by respondents and follow up questions. The study looked at the evolving theories of leadership from the Great Man and Trait theories, Behavioural Theories, Theory X and Y, the Contingency/Situational Theories and Transformational theories and investigated their application by Chief Executive Officers of Zimbabwe Stock Exchange listed companies between the period 2005 to 2010. The findings from this research support calls against the blanket implementation of universal models of leadership and leadership development, as well as approaches that break culture down into a series of discrete dimensions. They call for the facilitation of a more constructionist approach to the surfacing of Afro-centric knowledge about leadership and management. The study concluded that while some Western World principles, with regards to work and leadership, do not work in an African set up, it is agreed that the underlying theories on leadership are applicable universally but their universal and uncritical acceptance without regard to culture and the peculiarities of the operating environment does not work. The study calls for a pragmatic adaptation of the theories for application in Zimbabwe. Finally, the study recommends further and deeper studies with specific interest on African and Zimbabwean cultural and environmental idiosyncrasies.&#13;

                <text>The focus of this paper was to examine the warehousing strategies adopted in Zimbabwe to&#13;
reduce maize post-harvest storage losses and compare them to those adopted by the United&#13;
States of America (USA), Bangladesh, Nigeria, and Ethiopia. The aim was to draw valuable&#13;
lessons for Zimbabwe to reduce maize post-harvest storage losses and ensure food security.&#13;
Despite many schemes which have resulted in significant increase in maize productivity, the&#13;
problem of food shortages especially for maize has persisted continually in Zimbabwe. Primary&#13;
data was collected from 36 Grain Marketing Board of Zimbabwe (GMB) managers,&#13;
Supervisors, and employees in all its ‘Class 1’ depots, Zimbabwe, the Ministry of Lands,&#13;
Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development (MLAFWRD) and agricultural experts&#13;
through in-depth interviews. Quota, purposive and snowball sampling methods were used to&#13;
select the study participants. The study revealed that there was a huge difference in the maize&#13;
warehousing strategies used in the USA, Bangladesh, Nigeria and Ethiopia and the strategies&#13;
used in Zimbabwe in terms the responsibility for grain storage, grain storage methods, in-&#13;
storage grain monitoring, grain post-harvest services, post-harvest grain storage training. The&#13;
study concluded that Zimbabwe really needs to invest in maize warehousing in order to reduce&#13;
post-harvest storage losses. The study recommended the participation of the private sector in&#13;
maize storage in Zimbabwe, investment in hermetic storage, provision of maize drying services&#13;
at all Grain Marketing Board depots, training of all maize handlers in Zimbabwe on effective&#13;
maize storage practices and the establishment of post-harvest retail shops in all the 10 provinces&#13;
